On May 1, 2024, TAG Heuer and Kith announced their collaboration to offer 10 versions of a new Formula 1 watch, with these models based on the first generation Formula 1 watches that TAG Heuer produced from 1986 to 1995.  The new Formula 1 watch has the “Kith Heuer” logo on the dial, with seven versions available only through Kith, two versions available only through TAG Heuer, and one version being sold by both Kith and TAG Heuer.  The watches were released on Monday, May 6, 2024, and created a sensation in the watch world.  Love them or hate them, the release of these new Formula 1 watches was THE headline in the watch world in the first week of May 2024.

In connection with the introduction of these watches, TAG Heuer and Kith released a book authored by Nicholas Biebuyck (Heritage Director at TAG Heuer).  This book covers the history of the original “first generation” Formula 1 watches, including an illustrated listing showing all versions of these timepieces, and also provides details on the 10 new “Kith Heuer” models.  In this posting, we will present some highlights of the book; use the following link to see a PDF version of the entire book.

The First Generation TAG Heuer Models (1986 to 1995)

The book, TAG Heuer x Kith 2024, presents an illustrated catalog showing all versions of the Formula 1 watches and chronographs that TAG Heuer offered over the years 1986 to 1995.  This catalog will be useful for today’s collectors, as sorting out the colors, sizes and materials of these watches and chronographs can be a bit of a challenge.

The Kith Heuer Models (2024)

Sorting out the 10 new models produced in the TAG Heuer x Kith collaboration can also be a bit confusing.  In addition to the blaze of colors (of the cases, bezels and straps), we have stainless steel cases and arnite cases; rubber straps and stainless steel bracelets; and distribution through Kith and TAG Heuer.  Quantities produced range from 250 for five of the Kith-exclusive models to 1,350 for the model sold by TAG Heuer and Kith.  The book sorts all this out, with photos and specifications for each of the 10 models.

The book also provides the backstory for the collaboration between TAG Heuer and Kith, explaining many of the decisions made in producing the reissue.
