Heuer Carrera Chronograph --

Lemania 5100 Movement

Heuer introduced the Carrera in 1964, and the early ones were powered by the Valjoux 72 and 92 movements. In the 1980's, Heuer introduced a new version, powered by the legendary Lemania 5100 movement. This version of the Carrera was produced in stainless steel or black PVD; this is the stainless steel version, Reference 510.523. The bright white time-of-day hands and orange chronograph hands provide excellent legibility.

This Carrera is powered by the Lemania 5100 movement -- used for many military chronographs, this movement is one of the most rugged and reliable movements that you will find. Chronograph functions (start / stop / reset) are crisp and accurate, and the watch runs strong and keeps excellent time. To my eye, the dial and hands are nearly flawless. The photos show some light scratches on the crystal; there are no such marks on the dial itself.

Please note that this watch is being sold on a brand new black leather strap, but not the strap shown with the watch in these photos. All photos show the watch that is actually being offered for sale.

The case is in exceptionally good condition, with the brushed, starburst pattern being very strong and clean.

Heuer chronographs have had a strong rise in their values over the past few months, and this version of the Carrera is one of the rarest of all the Heuers. Below, you see this Carrera in Heuer's 1985 catalog. We don't see many of these Carreras, and you certainly will not find one in better condition -- cosmetically or mechanically. So whether you will be racing your Porsche Carrera in the vintage races, or merely timing the morning commute, this Heuer Carrera is one of the ultimate chronographs for motorsports enthusiasts.
